End of Life legislation

LATEST UPDATE (September 2020)

In its European Green Deal Communication, the European Commission has committed to propose a new Circular Economy Action Plan. The Commission will propose to revise the rules on end-of-life vehicles with a view to promoting more circular business models by linking design issues to end-of-life treatment, considering rules on mandatory recycled content for certain materials of components, and improving recycling efficiency.

CURRENT EU LEGISLATION

Directive 2000/53/EC (Directive 2000/53/EC – the “ELV Directive”) on end-of-life vehicles aims to make dismantling and recycling of ELVs more environmentally friendly. This directive sets clear quantified targets for reuse, recycling and recovery of the ELVs and their components.

The directive promotes the reuse, recyclability and recovery of waste vehicles.
